NHASP Principal Mentoring Training/Retraining

NHASP Principal Mentoring Training/Retraining

Thursday, August 19, 2021 (3:30 PM - 7:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

On Thursday, August 19 from 3:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m., The New Hampshire Association of School Principals will offer a Virtual Principal Mentoring Training/Retraining for those who were not able to attend the session on July 13, 2021. We recognize that some current administrators may be fully back at school, and the late afternoon time may allow more to participate. The training will focus on skills necessary to begin mentoring new and early career leaders in New Hampshire through NHASP. It combines the training materials offered from the National Association of Elementary School Principals Association (NAESP) and the Coaching Effectiveness Training offered from the Center for Creative leadership (CCL). It focuses on mentoring versus coaching, asking powerful questions, listening to understand, providing feedback, and a review of NHASP mentoring requirement and expectations. It will be taught by Ken Page, former Vermont teacher and principal, and Executive Director of the Vermont Principals’ Association and former Interim Executive Director of The New Hampshire Association of School Principals. The cost for the training will be $100. The training is open to all NHASP members who have been successful school leaders for five or more years’ experience in leadership positions. It is also appropriate for any previously trained mentor who wants to experience mentor refresher training. Taking the training does not guarantee that any participant will be assigned to a mentee, however, it will provide sufficient training to begin a mentoring relationship for the 2021-22 school year. Note: Mentoring through NHASP, which provides a stipend to the mentor, also provides free on-going training throughout the school year, as well as supervision and accountability for the 40 hours of mentoring each mentor provides to NH new and early-career school leaders. Questions can be directed to NHASP Executive Director, Bridey Bellemare, at bbellemare@nhasp.org, or to Mentoring Coordinator, Ken Page at kpage@nhasp.org (NHASP reserves the right up to five days before any event to cancel or postpone workshops or trainings without sufficient enrollment.)
