January 22, 2021: How Do I Lead the Work? 

You can’t do this alone! This session will help you to understand your role in developing and leading a collaborative learning community. Learn about the importance of developing mission, vision, values, and goals with your staff. How to build consensus, functional teams, and a guiding coalition to promote a positive school culture will also be shared. Leave with a plan for creating these important foundational steps for a competency-based system. 

March 12, 2021: Shifting to a CBL System? Where Do We Start? 

Making the shift to a competency-based system of learning can seem overwhelming. But through our facilitated reflection of the seven design principles and the examination of the principal’s, and other building leaders’ roles, your team can leave with a focused plan that will provide you with the pathway to move forward in meeting the needs of ALL learners in your school. 

April 9, 2021: How Did We Do and Where Do We Go from Here?

Reflection is critical for all learners. This session will allow building leaders to participate in a guided reflective process to determine next steps by focusing on what went well (and what may have been a struggle). Participants will determine next steps to continue to develop their collaborative approach to meeting the needs of all students in their school. Future opportunities for continued collaboration will be shaped during this session. 


Jonathan G. Vander Els

Jonathan directs innovative, competency-based projects for the New Hampshire Learning Initiative and is co-author of Breaking With Tradition: The Shift to Competency Based Learning in PLCs at Work (Solution Tree, 2018). Formerly, Jonathan was a principal in the Sanborn Regional School District in an elementary school recognized nationally as a model PLC and competency-based school. Jonathan has consulted, coached, and presented at conferences and Institutes throughout the United States.


Debora J. Bamforth

Deb Bamforth works as a consultant and administrative mentor to help educators and schools across the country develop strong professional learning communities. As principal of the DJ Bakie School in Sanborn, Deb spearheaded their transformation from one of traditional learning to one that is personalized, competency-based and driven by student evidence. Deb was a finalist for the 2014 New Hampshire Principal of the Year, and was presented with the 2014 Role Model Award for her leadership. 


VIRTUAL TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Computer for Each Participant: Desktop, laptop, Chromebook, or Surface PRO 4 or newer are ideal. (An iOS or Android tablet will not be sufficient as primary device.) 
  • Speakers (either external or internal) or headphones/earbuds 
  • Webcam (either external or external) 
  • An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless, speed of 3Mbps/3Mbps upload/download 
  • Operating System - Mac OS 10.10 or newer, Windows 10 or newer, Chrome OS 
  • Web Browser - Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge are recommended. 
  • Software - Zoom Video Conferencing program.

NHLI Event Cancellation Policy: A full refund will be made (minus a $35 cancellation fee) if cancellation is made in writing more than one week prior to the start of the program. If cancellation is made after January 15, 2021, no refunds will be made.
